IRS Account Access Uses ID.me for ID Verification

The IRS has started using ID.me to verify your identity for online account access. If you have an existing IRS username, you need to create a new ID.me account as soon as possible. You will not be able to log in with your existing IRS username and password starting in summer 2022.

To verify your identity with ID.me, you’ll need to provide a photo of an identity document such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport. You’ll also need to take a selfie with a smartphone or a computer with a webcam.

I was able to complete my ID.me registration in 20 minutes. It was not difficult however, it is important your information on your documents is up-to-date.
