The Annual IRS Maintenance period during which certain types of returns are not accepted electronically begins Saturday, November 20, 2021. Submission transmission ends at 11:55 p.m. EST; acknowledgment retrieval from IRS ends at 11:59 p.m. EST.
This shutdown prevents e-filing of individual returns. Any acknowledgements not retrieved by 11:59 p.m. on November 20th cannot be accessed until MeF opens for production for the 2021 tax year. This is also referred to as the e-filing shutdown or cutover schedule.
It is important to note this only affects e-filing; it does not affect current tax returns that are already processing.
